Programme
A special night of three conductors, fine music, celebration and cake. A 47 piece orchestra led by Concertmaster Julia Chen, sampled La Réjouissance from Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks and then strolled through Delius’s The Walk to the Paradise Garden with Michael Couche conducting. Resident conductor Kent Ross took over the reins for an orchestral version of Rachmaninov’s Prelude in G Minor, an edited version of Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a string arrangement of John Williams’ ‘I Could Have Done More’ from Schindler’s List, featuring a Julia violin solo, and a rip roaring Brahms 5th Hungarian Waltz. After the interval guest conductor Alexander Vengerovski took the audience through an emotional rendition of the 2nd and 4th movements of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor.
